   historical, Andean mining: a broad leather basket or backpack used to carry ore from a mine, especially on the back of an apir

   At the surface, the carrier tipped the crushed ore out of his capacho.

Borrowed from Spanish capacho, 'basket or carrying bag.' In Chilean and Peruvian mining it came to denote the rawhide pack in which an apir carried ore up a shaft. Nineteenth-century English accounts use both capacho and the variant carpacho; modern Chilean museum and mining sources use capacho.
