   Willows and other fluviatile trees formed a narrow fringe along the riverbank.

Borrowed from Latin fluviatilis, 'of or found in a river,' from fluvius, 'river,' ultimately related to fluere, 'to flow.' The shorter synonym fluvial is now much more common.
