   The ontological argument attempts to infer God's existence from the concept of a necessarily existing being.

Formed from ontology + -ical. Ontology comes from New Latin ontologia, built from Greek on, genitive ontos ("being"), + -logia ("study, account"). Ontological therefore concerns what exists or the fundamental character of being, rather than how it is known.
