Etymology

From New Latin ornithologia, formed from Greek ornis, genitive ornithos, 'bird,' and -logia, 'study or discourse.' The Renaissance naturalist Ulisse Aldrovandi used Ornithologia as the title of his systematic work on birds, helping establish the modern scientific term.
