   The Renaissance palazzo enclosed a broad arcaded courtyard.

Borrowed from Italian palazzo, 'palace or large urban building,' from Latin palatium. Palatium originally named Rome's Palatine Hill, where imperial residences stood, and then came to mean a palace. Palazzo is therefore a doublet of palace.
