Borrowed from Spanish señor, 'lord, gentleman, or sir,' from Medieval Latin senior, 'superior or lord,' the noun use of Latin senior, 'older.' Senor is the established English spelling without the tilde; señor is also used. The word is related through Latin senior to English senior and, more distantly, sir.
