   The stegosaurus swung its spiked tail in the museum animation.

From New Latin Stegosaurus, formed from Greek stegē ("roof, covering") and sauros ("lizard"). Othniel Charles Marsh coined the genus name in 1877 because he initially interpreted its broad plates as a roof-like covering.
