   any of several Asian forest pheasants of the genus Tragopan, whose brightly colored males have two fleshy head horns and an inflatable throat lappet

   The male tragopan spread his spotted plumage and inflated his blue throat lappet during courtship.

From New Latin Tragopan, taken from Latin tragopan and Greek tragopan, the name of a fabulous horned bird, formed from tragos, 'he-goat,' + Pan, the horned pastoral god. The old name was transferred to the Asian pheasants because of the male's hornlike head processes.
