Etymology
Formed from un-, 'not,' + rivaled, from rival. Rival came through French from Latin rivalis, originally one who shared the use of a stream and therefore might compete for its water. Unrivaled literally means 'not matched by a rival.' Unrivalled is the usual British spelling.
