   The banteng bull is much darker than the cow and carries larger horns.

Borrowed from Malay banteng, the local name for the wild ox. The accepted scientific name is Bos javanicus; Darwin and other nineteenth-century zoologists often used Bos sondaicus, now treated as an older synonym. Its domesticated form is known as Bali cattle.
