   legally due, demandable, or capable of being exacted, especially of a debt, tax, or payment

   Interest becomes exigible on the first day of each quarter.

Borrowed in the seventeenth century from French exigible, from exiger, 'to demand,' ultimately Latin exigere, 'to drive out, require, or exact.' It survives mainly in legal and financial writing for an obligation that may be demanded now.
