Simplified etymology

Horoscope has been present since Old English and ultimately contains the Greek element hōra, meaning “season” or “time,” which is also distantly related to year.

From French horoscope and Latin horoscopus, ultimately from Greek hōroskopos, ‘observer of the hour,’ formed from hōra (‘hour, season’) and skopos (‘observer’). It originally denoted the celestial configuration observed at birth.
