From Middle English indigestioun, via Old French indigestion from Late Latin indigestio ("failure to digest"). It combines Latin in- ("not") with digestio ("arrangement; digestion"), from digerere ("to separate, arrange, digest"). The bodily sense has remained central throughout its history.
