   An intensional definition of triangle gives the properties that every triangle must have.

Formed from intension + -al. Intension comes from Latin intensio ("stretching, strain, intensity") and acquired a logical sense for the internal content or attributes of a concept. Intensional is therefore the traditional opposite of extensional.
