   in logic and semantics, relating to or determined by intension: the meaning, properties, or conditions associated with an expression rather than the objects it denotes

   An intensional definition of triangle gives the properties that every triangle must have.

Formed from intension + -al. Intension comes from Latin intensio ("stretching, strain, intensity") and acquired a logical sense for the internal content or attributes of a concept. Intensional is therefore the traditional opposite of extensional.
