Etymology
From Medieval Latin lenticularis, 'lentil-shaped,' based on Latin lenticula, a diminutive of lens, 'lentil.' The resemblance of a biconvex lens to a lentil gave the word its scientific shape sense and, later, its optical and image-printing uses.
