   They called a locksmith to open the door without damaging the frame.

From Middle English loksmith, a compound of lock + smith. Smith once referred broadly to a skilled craftworker as well as specifically to a metalworker, so a locksmith was the specialist who made and repaired the metal mechanisms of locks.
