Formed from medico-, the combining form of medical and ultimately Latin medicus ("physician"), + jurist, from Middle French juriste and Medieval Latin iurista, from Latin ius, iuris ("law"). The nineteenth-century compound is now usually expressed as medical jurist or forensic physician.
