   The male amadavat displayed his bright red breeding plumage to the female.

A less common variant of avadavat. The bird name is an irregular adaptation of Ahmedabad in Gujarat, India, a trading center from which the cage birds were exported to Europe. The modern scientific name is Amandava amandava.
