Etymology

Borrowed from Spanish cigarrillo, a diminutive of cigarro, 'cigar,' formed with -illo. Cigarillo entered English in the early nineteenth century. Cigarito, from the alternative Spanish diminutive cigarrito, has been used in English for the same small tobacco roll but is treated as a variant of cigarillo.
