Drip goes back to Old English. It once had the variant drib, which survives indirectly in dribble, driblet, and the expression dribs and drabs; drop and droop are also related.

Etymology

From Middle English 'drippen', from Old English 'dryppan' / Danish 'dryppe', from Proto-Germanic '*drupjaną' ('to drip'), related to 'drop'.
