Simplified etymology

Epilogue came through Latin from Greek epilogos, formed from epi, “in addition,” and logos, “speech.” It denotes a concluding comment or section at the end of a book or play.

From French epilogue and Latin epilogus, from Ancient Greek epilogos ("conclusion of a speech"), formed from epi- ("in addition") + logos ("word, speech"). The term moved from classical rhetoric to the closing speech of a drama and then to the concluding section of a narrative.
