Simplified etymology

Eureka entered English in the early 17th century from Greek heurēka, meaning “I have found it.” According to tradition, Archimedes shouted it after realizing that water displacement could be used to test whether a crown was made of pure gold.

From Ancient Greek heureka ("I have found it"), the first-person perfect of heuriskein ("to find"). Tradition attributes the cry to Archimedes after a sudden scientific discovery.
