Simplified etymology

Holistic was formed from holism, an early-20th-century term coined for Jan Smuts’s theory that nature produces wholes by organizing smaller units. Both words derive from Greek holos, “whole”; holistic later became especially common for approaches to medicine that treat the whole person.
