Formed from in- 'not' + eradicable. Eradicable is based on eradicate, from Latin eradicare, 'to root out' (e- 'out' + radix, radicis, 'root'). The literal impossibility of uprooting a plant supplied the metaphor for ambitions, beliefs, and effects that cannot be eliminated.
