Simplified etymology

Luscious appeared in late Middle English and may be an alteration of delicious, which comes through late Latin deliciosus from Latin deliciae ‘delight, pleasure’.

From Middle English lucius, perhaps an alteration of licius, a shortened form of delicious. The deeper formation is uncertain. The word broadened from rich taste or smell to other sensuous qualities and then to physical attractiveness.
