orris iris
Etymology
Probably an alteration of iris, through Middle English ireos and a Medieval Latin form of Latin iris. Orris came to name both fragrant-rooted irises and their dried rhizomes. In perfume, aged orris root contributes a powdery violet aroma and helps fix other scents.
