Simplified etymology

Peccadillo literally means “little sin.” It was borrowed in the late 16th century, in several early spellings, from Spanish peccadillo and Italian peccadiglio; both derive from Latin peccatum, “error, sin,” from peccare, “to make a mistake, sin.”

Etymology

Borrowed from Spanish pecadillo, diminutive of pecado ('sin'), from Latin peccatum ('sin'), from peccare ('to sin, err').
