Etymology

A blend of scientific and fiction, coined by editor Hugo Gernsback in 1916 and revived when he launched Amazing Stories in 1926. Gernsback used it for romances interwoven with scientific fact and prophetic vision. The term was largely displaced by science fiction during the following decade.
