Simplified etymology

Vintage entered English in the late Middle English period via French vendage, from Latin vindemia, “wine removal.”

From Middle English vendage, through Anglo-Norman and Old French vendange, from Latin vindemia, 'grape gathering,' formed from vinum ('wine') and a verb meaning 'take away.' The word shifted from the harvest itself to the wine produced in a given year.
