Simplified etymology

Geezer is a dialectal pronunciation of the earlier guiser, meaning a mummer or person in disguise. It developed into an informal term for a man, formerly often an elderly man, and later acquired strong Cockney associations and sometimes an approving sense, as in diamond geezer.

A late-19th-century dialectal variant of 'guiser' ('mummer, one in disguise'), from 'guise' (from Old French 'guise' 'manner, fashion', of Germanic origin).
