   Stable workers were warned that glanders can pass from infected horses to people.

From Middle English glandres, from Old French glandres, the plural of glandre ("gland"), ultimately from Latin glandula. The disease was named for the swollen lymph nodes seen in infected animals; its chronic skin form is also called farcy.
