Borrowed in the seventeenth century from French irreprochable, earlier inreprochable, and analyzable in English as ir- ('not') + reproachable. Reproach ultimately comes through Old French from Latin repropiare, 'bring up against someone,' so irreproachable literally means not open to such a charge.
