Etymology
From parenchyma + -tous. Parenchyma comes through New Latin from Greek parenkhyma, 'something poured in beside,' built from para-, 'beside,' en-, 'in,' and khein, 'to pour.' Early anatomists used it for the soft substance filling the spaces within organs.
