Simplified etymology

Perimeter entered late Middle English through Latin from Greek perimetros, meaning a measure around something. It combines peri- “around” with metron “measure.”

From Latin perimetros, from Ancient Greek perimetros ("circumference"), formed from peri- ("around") + metron ("measure"). The literal meaning is therefore "measure around."
