   to attribute human form, emotions, intentions, or behavior to an animal, object, natural force, or other nonhuman entity

   It is tempting to anthropomorphize the chatbot by treating its fluent replies as evidence of human feelings.

Coined in the nineteenth century from anthropomorphous + -ize. The base comes from Greek anthropos ("human being") + morphe ("form"): to anthropomorphize is literally to give something human form, extended to human motives, emotions, and behavior.
