Etymology
Borrowed from French cabriolet, from cabriole, 'a leap or caper,' ultimately related to Italian capriola, 'a goat's leap.' The light carriage was named for its springing motion. Cab is a shortening of cabriolet, and the name later passed from folding-top carriages to convertible motorcars.
