Simplified etymology

Enrage dates from the late 15th century and was formed from rage. Rage ultimately goes back to Latin rabere, “to rave,” and in medieval use could mean madness.

From Old French enrager ('to be furious'), from en- (causative) + rage, from Latin rabies ('madness, rage'), from rabere ('to rave').
