   They played piquet with a pack from which the twos through sixes had been removed.

Borrowed in the seventeenth century from French piquet. The French card-game name is of uncertain origin, though some dictionaries compare it with pique or pic, words connected with a prick or point. The variant spelling picquet is also historical.
