Simplified etymology

Acme comes from Greek akmē, meaning “point, edge, pinnacle, or highest point.” It entered English in the mid-16th century, at first being treated so consciously as a Greek borrowing that it was sometimes written in Greek letters.

From Ancient Greek akmḗ ('point, highest point, prime'), from Proto-Indo-European *h2eḱ- ('sharp, pointed').
