Simplified etymology

Acrobat comes from Greek akrobatos, meaning “walking on tiptoe,” a reference to the tightrope walking of early acrobats. Its akro- element means “tip, end, or summit.”

Borrowed from French acrobate, from Greek akrobates, 'one who walks on tiptoe or climbs aloft,' based on akros, 'highest or at the extremity,' and bainein, 'to walk.'
