From Middle English corruptible, from Latin corruptibilis, 'liable to decay or corruption,' built on corrumpere, 'to spoil, destroy, or bribe.' The older physical and theological sense concerns mortal things that decay; the moral sense applies the same susceptibility to people who can be bribed or depraved.
